Datsun GO+ Overview

Datsun in 2014 gave the MPV segment a more affordable competitor in the form of GO Plus. It started off its innings with the GO hatchback and MPV, however due to tepid response over the years, the Japanese carmaker decided to give the car a major overhaul. Recently, Datsun launched the updated version of GO Plus MPV in the country and just ahead of the festive season. The new MPV gets appreciable changes on the outside and inside along with enhanced safety while the engine remains the same. Datsun GO+ Engine & Gearbox

The specifications are identical to that of the previous model. The 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol engine which is also doing its duty in Nissan Micra churns out 68PS and 104Nm of torque. While the motor produces the same amount of power, the torque helps the car take off with eagerness with the added weight of 40 kgs. The power is transferred to the front wheels via 5-speed manual transmission. The engine remains excited and as soon as you put your foot down, it responds pretty quickly. The MPV is comfortable enough to potter around in city traffic even in high gears. But what is nicer is that the driver will not need to go for low gear in most situations as the car pulls quite efficiently in high gears. It can be dragged to high rpm but going to that far will trigger the engine to create noise. Also a small hiccup can be expected because of low-rpm restriction so the driver needs to really push the speed slightly up to get the MPV going. Overall, the car offers decent drivability to carry small family with large luggage or larger family with low luggage.

The engine of the Datsun GO MPV is pretty refined. This has to be refined and efficient as people in India are pretty mileage cautious. Given the requirement here, Datsun claims that the car can deliver 19.83kmpl, certified by ARAI. However, real world mileage will be around 15kmpl and if driven sedately it could return 17-18kmpl.

Datsun GO+ Driving Dynamics

Dastun Go+ is easy to drive and handle on open and congested roads. The brake works well thanks to the ventilated discs towards the front and drum at the rear. It is pretty easy to drive the car both in city and highway. Though at high speeds there is a fair amount of body roll.

Datsun GO+ Braking & Safety

The braking system comprising of front disc and rear drum is average and the pedal lacks sharp bite as opposed to the other MPVs. But inclusion of ABS instils confidence in the driver. The Japanese automaker has really upped the ante this time by drastically updating the safety department. The new Datsun GO Plus now comes loaded with standard safety kit which includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, rear parking sensors and follow me headlamps. This has really changed the game altogether for the car.
