Renault Kwid

Renault Kwid Overview

The Renault Kwid 2019 has been spotted testing. We had revealed earlier that Renault will be launching a facelift of the Kwid in 2019. The Kwid has been an exciting car. When first launched, it took the market by storm and challenged the segment leader, Maruti Alto. It was attractive looking and also had good road presence. This was enough to roll eyeballs in its favor. Space and features it offered was unparalleled in its segment. This made it a big hit in the country. Now as the car completes three years it is bound to get a major facelift. Due to competition getting aggressive,

The Renault Kwid sales have crossed the 3 Lakh Mark. The Renault Kwid has crossed this milestone in a period of little over three years since the hatchback was launched in 2015 and turned out to be a game changer for the company. It will get some upgrades that will make it more attractive. There will not be an major change to its design since it’s launch in 2016. Check for car loan interest calculator.

However, it will get styling updates. There will be new bumpers in place. The headlamps will see a tweak. A new front grille will also be added. The interiors will also get an upgrade in terms of color theme and touch and feel. An upgraded touchscreen system might come in. There will be no change in its engines. It will continue to be offered in the 800cc and 1.0-litre engine options, with a 5-speed gearbox and AMT.

Renault Kwid Look

Now one thing that will come in the pre-facelift update on the Kwid is that if you see the pictures shared by our reader you will notice that the only change that is visible to the eye is the new front grille design. The front grille which is chrome plated is now of a different design. The current car has a honeycomb design while this new design is a more basic horizontal slat design and on the current car, there was an option of a bigger chrome grille. But the new car offers a completely different grille that is brand new.

There have been no changes to the cars tyre size, the plastic body cladding, rear view mirrors whereas the only extra feature one can see is on the rear, which is the reverse parking camera which is integrated into the Renault badge on the boot lid. The grille and the reverse parking options are a major update before the facelift Renault Kwid 2019 is here.

Renault Kwid 2019 will be a competitive car in its segment. The Kwid was developed for India specifically and it also caters to other developing markets. The Kwid looks more rugged due to the body cladding. The Renault Kwid 2019 will have a different appearance due to the changes in the front grille and headlamps. From the side, it will look identical. The high ground clearance will be there. The tyres wool also be the same as they deliver good fuel efficiency. It will get blacked out door pillars and also door handles. The rear of the Renault Kwid 2019 is also will not see much change.

Renault Kwid Comfort

The basic design and layout remains unchanged from earlier Kwids but the cabin does get its own share of updates. Chrome on the inside door handles and gear knob of manual Kwids are some of the small details that help spruce up the look of things inside. Quality, however, remains fair for this class of car – but no more. As before, the Kwid boasts of a digital speedometer and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, both of which are elements that uplift the cabin’s ambience tremendously.

Impressively, the touchscreen is also the display for the Kwid’s new rear view camera – a first-in-segment feature. It’s a helpful feature but when the camera gets dirty on a wet day, you’d wish the package included sensors, as well. Other revisions inside include the incorporation of retractable rear seat belts and even a 12V charging socket. Kwid Climbers also get a class-first rear centre armrest. There’s reasonable space for four adults in the Kwid and the 300-litre boot is also usefully large. For more information on Renault Kwid visit Bigintmedia

Renault Kwid Gearbox

No changes have been made under the hood of the Renault Kwid. There is a 799cc petrol engine that produces 53 HP and 72 Nm. This 3-cylinder unit offers decent performance in the city but feels underpowered when you try to pick up speeds on the highway. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox which offers light shifts and the clutch is equally light too. On the fuel efficiency front, this engine delivers anywhere between 17-21 km/l. This engine isn’t offered with an AMT gearbox.

The other engine on the Kwid is a 999cc petrol unit and this is also a 3-cylinder engine. This churns out 67 HP and 91 Nm. In comparison to the smaller engine, this one feels peppier and livelier. In city driving, the performance increment is instantly noticeable and the Kwid feels responsive. On the highways, the car has enough grunt to reach 100 km/hr but if you intend to do very high speeds, the engine may not feel up to the mark. The Kwid 1.0 is also very fuel efficient giving out 16-20 km/l. The 1.0-litre engine gets a 5-speed AMT too which increases the convenience quotient by a huge extent and even though the shifts aren’t exactly lag-free, you can’t expect much at this price.

Renault Kwid Riding

The Kwid has very good ride quality like other Renault cars and doesn’t disappoint on the comfort front. The suspension feels good enough to cope up with our roads. The 13-inch tyres are just enough to do their job but grip levels aren’t very good. The brakes however are fairly decent but the Kwid still misses out on ABS. The steering lacks any sort of feel or feedback and the driving experience is unexciting. NVH levels in the Kwid leave a lot to be desired because even though the engines are silent at idle, they get noisy at speeds and the sound insulation in the Kwid does little to filter out outside noises and disturbances. The headlamps and front grille will be sleek in design and will add to the look. The Renault Kwid 2019 facelift will be launched this year. Renault Kwid Bottomline

The small updates have done their bit to improve the Kwid. The feature-additions make the little Renault more appealing and the inclusion of a creep function on the AMT has also made the car that much nicer to drive in town; although a manual mode for the gearbox would have been great, as well. Still, considering the equipment on offer, the refreshed Kwid AMT’s price-tag between Rs 4.34-4.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) is pretty good value for money, and worth a look.
